Kayla was born and raised in Apopka, FL. From a young age, she was no stranger to the first responder life. Her mother is a retired Florida deputy after 30 years of service, and her father worked as an ER nurse most of her childhood. Her father is still active in the medical field, serving in high level administration roles across the nation. Kayla has two younger sisters, Jasmine and Tamara. Kayla graduated from Apopka High School and earned her Associates of Arts in General Studies from Valencia College (Orlando.) Kayla moved to Tampa and earned her Bachelors degree in Mass Communications with a Public Relations focus from the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!). Prior to graduating from USF, Kayla began her law enforcement career.
In 2015, Kayla was hired by a local law enforcement agency in the Tampa Bay area. She began her career as a 911 Dispatcher and went on to become a law enforcement officer. She primarily spent her time in patrol and she also worked in proactive roles such a CP (community policing) specialty unit. In 2021, while awaiting the arrival of her son Grady with her husband David, Kayla served as a Criminal Justice Instructor for Pasco County's Career and Technical Education program. Kayla has earned many certifications over the years, to include Field Training Officer and most recently, becoming a Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Currently, Kayla is still active as an Auxiliary Law Enforcement Officer.
Kayla is now embarking on a journey to serve as your next Pasco County Sheriff! She believes in no nonsense law enforcement, enforcement of all state statutes and ordinances, upholding the Constitution, protecting victims, and supporting deputies which in turn helps law enforcement operations to be at their most efficient and highest standard. Kayla is YOUR next relatable sheriff!
